ADS – Mt. Kenya Renewable Energy Programme Empowers Young Kenyans

Communication officer Friday, 11 September 2026
Faith Njenga and Robert Gacheru, two youthful Kenyans from the Kikuyu area, are among the beneficiaries of the ADS – Mt. Kenya Renewable Energy Technologies Sensitization Programme. The programme is equipping young people with knowledge and practical solutions to help address challenges caused by frequent power blackouts through access to affordable and reliable solar energy technologies. Coming from an area where modern farming is rapidly taking shape, Faith and Robert have witnessed farmers increasingly embrace solar energy to power their agricultural activities. Solar systems installed through ADS initiatives have provided an efficient and reliable alternative source of energy, supporting agricultural activities and improving access to dependable power. The two have also witnessed the use of biogas as an alternative cooking energy source. Through ADS initiatives, some households have benefited from biogas systems installed free of charge, helping reduce reliance on traditional cooking fuels. Sharing Experiences on Renewable Energy Faith and Robert recently shared their experiences during the two-day ADS Renewable Energy Conference held at Phoenicia Hotel along Kiambu Road. The conference brought together different stakeholders to discuss key issues surrounding renewable energy, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable solutions for communities. Their experiences demonstrate how renewable energy technologies can contribute to more resilient communities by providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions while supporting modern agriculture and reducing dependence on traditional sources of energy. Building Sustainable Communities Through Renewable Energy The ADS – Mt. Kenya Renewable Energy Technologies Sensitization Programme continues to create awareness and promote practical renewable energy solutions among communities. Through initiatives such as solar power and biogas, communities are gaining access to cleaner and more reliable energy alternatives that can improve livelihoods, support economic activities, and contribute to environmental sustainability. Faith and Robert's experiences are a reflection of the growing opportunities presented by renewable energy in building sustainable and resilient communities.
