Communication officer Friday, 25 September 2026
As part of the EMALI Project, a four-day training on Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS) was conducted for gender champions at ACK St. Mary’s Kenol. The training aimed to equip gender champions with practical knowledge and participatory tools that can support gender equality, stronger family relationships, economic empowerment, social inclusion, and effective leadership within their families and communities. Throughout the four days, participants engaged in interactive sessions that encouraged reflection, goal setting, dialogue, and practical action planning. The GALS approach enables individuals and communities to identify their aspirations, recognize challenges, mobilize available resources, and develop pathways towards positive change. Key Modules Covered 1. Visioning Participants explored the importance of having a clear vision for their lives, families, and communities. The session encouraged them to identify their aspirations and think about the changes they would like to achieve in the future. 2. Visioning Journey The Visioning Journey helped participants transform their aspirations into practical action. They reflected on their current situation, identified their desired destination, and explored the steps and resources needed to move towards their goals. 3. Happy Family Tree The Happy Family Tree focused on building stronger and healthier family relationships. Participants explored the different factors that contribute to a happy family while identifying areas where communication, cooperation, support, and shared responsibility can be strengthened. 4. Increasing Income Tree Economic empowerment was another key area of the training. Through the Increasing Income Tree, participants identified existing sources of income, available opportunities, resources, and possible ways of improving household financial stability. The exercise encouraged participants to think creatively about income-generating opportunities while considering how household members can work together towards shared economic goals. 5. Social Empowerment Map and Leadership The training concluded with the Social Empowerment Map and Leadership module. Participants identified individuals, groups, institutions, and networks within their communities that can provide support, resources, partnerships, and opportunities. The session also emphasized the role of leadership in creating positive change and encouraged gender champions to use their positions to promote inclusion, participation, and empowerment within their communities. Strengthening Community-Led Change The four-day GALS training under the EMALI Project provided gender champions with practical tools that can be applied in everyday life and shared with other community members. By equipping gender champions with skills in visioning, family strengthening, economic empowerment, social networking, and leadership, the training contributes to building more empowered individuals, stronger families, and more resilient communities. The gender champions at ACK St. Mary’s Kenol will play an important role in taking these lessons forward and supporting continued community-led action under the EMALI Project.
